2017 Ms. Basketball: Jasmine Dickey, Catonsville
Ms. Jasmine Dickey led her team to a 4A State Championship this season. In this game, the 5’10’ guard led her team with 30 points and 11 rebounds over defending champion Walt Whitman, 49-46. She averaged 23.8 points per game, 9.7 rebounds per game, 2.6 assists per game and 3.4 steals per game. She has also scored over 1000 points in her career.

Howard County POY, Taylor Addision led her team to a 22-2 season before falling short to the 4A State Champions Catonsville. Addison was a constant averaging 15.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Central Maryland Conference POY, Makayla Daniels had an outstanding showing at the state tournament. She broke the tournament record for most points scored in a state tournament by amassing a total of 76 points, scoring 29 in the semi-final game vs. Oxon Hill and 47 in the final game vs. Atholton. Carroll County Basketball POY, Mackenzie DeWees averaged 22 double double this year with overall averages of 26 points, 12 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 6.2 steals; DeWees has committed to Quinnipiac University. Montgomery County standout Abby Meyers led her team to back-to-back state appearances for the 2016 and 2017 school years and will be playing at Princeton next year. Eleanor Roosevelt’s Octavia Wilson led her team throughout the year advancing to the 4A state semi-final game vs Walt Whitman. The 5’8” standout scored over 1,000 career points and averaged 18.1 points and 4.1 rebounds. Wilson will play next year for the University of Charlotte.

Harford County POY Chyna Latimer led her team to the 1A State Championship for the past three out of four years scoring over 1,000 career points. Committed to play at George Washington University, she averaged 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3.4 steals. Largo’s Stephanie Guihon was the glue for back-to-back appearances for the Lions scoring over 40 points on three occasions, 30+ points over ten times and averaged 27.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists for 2016-2017 season. Khayla Mitchell’s backcourt play along with teammate Chyna Latimer were a force to contend with. The 5’3” point guard averaged 12 points, 5 assists and 3 steals and will continue playing next year for Barton. New Town had a great showing winning the 2A State Championship led by the talented 5’7” guard Maraiyah Smith. The senior averaged 20.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals. Fairleigh Dickinson University bound, Kamrin Weimer has been the starting point guard for the past three years leading her team to state appearances each year. She currently holds the 3-point record for Southern Garrett with 77 3’s in 2016.
